Silbury Hill is the largest pre-historic man made mound in Europe, and one of the largest in the World. It stands a staggering 140ft high. The base of the mound covers about 5 acres and the top is about 100ft wide.
The mound is probably Neolithic and was built in 3 stages. Archeaologists though have yet to decipher what it was built for.
Please note that this site is easily viewed, but you are not allowed to walk on or up the mound due to conservation work in trying to save the mound for future generations. Even though it is well worth visiting, but do keep to the English Heritage viewing areas.
