Méan Earraigh

Méan Earraigh (Vernal/Spring Equinox) is a time of new birth, rebirth. The snow (for some of us) melts away and the brown and orange start to turn green and the weather (for some of us) gets much more pleasant.

But there is a deeper more spiritual side of Méan Earraigh. Celts and Druids do not believe in a centralized sense of power, but those who do see Vernal Equinox as the light defeating the dark. The importance of Méan Earraigh for Celts and Druids is the change to start clean. Winter is long and hard and we have a tendency to do some no to virtuous things in winter, and Méan Earraigh is our chance to wash our souls clean.

One ritual idea is (remember to copy someone’s ritual exactly for it will do nothing and cause bad karma) to get a planting pot and plant one of the following: Acorn, Celandine, Cinquefoil, Dandelion, Dogwood, Honeysuckle, Iris, Jasmine, Rose, Tansy, or Violet. Nurture and help this plant grow until Beltane (May Eve), in which you transplant to the outside world. Also write on a piece of paper all of your bad habits or things you do that are considered shameful and light a candle of any color. Burn the paper and put the ashes in the pot that the plant is in. Than with the candle still burning, move your hand charkas over the flame (without harming yourself) and this represents the women jumping over bonfires to ensure fertility. This fertility is not just the impregnation of a woman, but the impregnation of Mother Earth. This next part is for girls only; if guys do this they might be kidnapped. In your own way call upon the Sidhe and nymphs to come and rejoice, dance, and live among the outside world in the vicinity of your home (or a park if you live in the city). Keeping favor of the Sidhe and the nymphs can be very helpful one day (may even save your life). Than wash a silver globe or something silver colored and shiny in bottled spring water and offer one to the Sidhe and one to the nymphs.

This is just an inside ritual for those of us with pretty hectic lives. But the best is to celebrate the first rising sun, which will bring you great amount of luck and well help you advance in the magick realm easily for years.
