On the definition of Beauty:
by Reverend George C. Koukouris
::beau·ti·ful::
..Having qualities that delight the senses, especially the sense of sight...
"A fat girl can never be beautiful, as long as we keep such a shallow and immature view of what being beautiful is."~~ SilentRavenSpeaks
If you are driving on the road, pay attention at all the different vehicles. There are big cars, small cars, cars with dents, cars with their mufflers hanging, cars with a mixed-matched tire. Some people drive motorcycles, vans, Hummers, and so just like people and their vehicles, people and their bodies come in all shapes, sizes, and variations. And just as with our cars, they never end up looking how they do when we first get them. We might be driving somewhere and scratch our paint, get into an accident, or worse. And as bad as it can get, we are not our vehicles; they are simply an extension of us. The same thing happens with our bodies, we get scrapes, cuts, our bodies change, some people lose limbs, their bodies become disfigured, yet with all of that, we are not our bodies. A body is not something you are, it is simply what you have.
One of the things we might see, if we are aware of it, is our society puts a big significance on the body and the body's qualities- first... and we all do it; we can't help it, our bodies are all we see and this is how we have been programmed. For example, if you are out, simply spend time paying attention, to how people refer to each other, or meditate even your own speech about "somebody". (As I refer to these examples, I'll use the word "somebody" because this is how we see people.) As I said, we have been conditioned to catagorize people by the qualities of their bodies, and we most always put that first. If you see an African American or someone with dark skin, we refer to him or her as a "Black" person ( black is a quality of the body, skin coloration and it doesn't really signify who they are). If we see someone who is missing a limb or is in a wheel chair, we call them a "Handicap" person. (again we are refering to the quality of their body, and this doesn't signify !
who they are.) There are also many others-- deaf person, blind guy, Chinese guy, fat girl, gay person. Also in our society, mostly all of our rollmodels have to do with the body, with physical sports players, and those we see on television and movies; specially action heroes.
In fashion, there is that saying "Clothes make the man", so we are still putting the importance on physicality. We have been lead to believe that we are our bodies. We identify with our bodies, so if I see fat on my body-- then "I'm fat"... I'm a fat guy. If someone is talking to you about somebody, or if you hear somebody talking about somebody else, to somebody else, the one person might ask-- "Was it a woman, was she black, and what other physical qualities do I NEED to know." In our own personal lives, we tend to judge our selves by how our bodies look. We MIGHT see how loose our skin might be, how our bellies seem to hang, and we can either be amazed or disgusted. So we see our bodies, and yes we do have a hard time seeing Who We Really Are. So if you sometimes think your body isn't yours, well, you're half correct if you take the i and the n, put them together and push the m and e together... you have "in me". My body image is in me, and how I see myself through my per!
sonality; personality can be short for personal reality(which is outward). Our personalities are the lenses for which we experience everything, in the outter world.
As Above so Below, As Below so Above: the application of Thought-Word-Deed
In ancient Wiccan and Pagan magickal circles, there is the saying "As Above, so Below". And it has been an ancient teaching, in Christianity, "On Earth as it is in Heaven", which is part of the "Lord's Prayer" in the 6th chapter of Matthew; verses 9 through 11. These sayings show us how our physical reality is a direct reflection of our spiritual reality. When we get an idea so ingrained in our subconscious, and it becomes "hardwired" into the neural network, of our brains, it becomes very difficult to change. Metaphysical teachings teach us that we are each a Trinity. We all have three aspects of ourselves, as Individuals. This Trinity consists of Spirit/Soul/Body, SuperConscious Mind/SubConscious Mind/Conscious Mind. When we work in the world, there are two terms we use, Creation and Manifestation. Many people believe these terms are interactive, however, they are not. Creation happens in the mind, in the realm of the unseen. Manifestation is when we take that idea and bri!
ng it out into the seen. Anything we think of, whether it is a house we want, a move we are making, a drawing, or a car being built, it all was created in the mind first; actually it had already been in Mind always, in the realm of possibilities. It was up to us to take the appropriate energy, atoms, molecules, and put them together to form the idea in our outter reality.
Now we can apply this to our personal lives and our self image. If the SubConscious Mind were a house, it would have two doors. One door leads to the Upper level of the SuperConscious Mind, and the other to the lower, Conscious Mind. Lets say we have different people(thoughts) and they can enter from either door. The SubConsious Mind can be influenced by what we experience in the outter world and so we have negative and positive people coming in and out that door, although it is mostly negative. It also can be influenced by the Collective SuperConscious Mind. The problem we face is, we constantly have the door to the ConsciousMind, open, and we don't let much in from the SuperConscious Mind. We become bombarded by all the negative ads, programming, and idea that tell us how we should be, who we should be like, what we should be like. So because we believe that world is real, we totally dismiss what the SuperConsciousness says, that we are Individuals, special, beautiful and !
LOVED, because we believe that world is false. Certainly religion, specifically the Christian fundamentalist traditions, has lead us to believe that even God dictates to us that we are bad, sinners, and need to do or believe something to be Loved by Her. So we begin to believe the lies that:
1. We are unlovable
2. We are incapable of loving.
These are the two beliefs that affect our self-esteem and self-worth more than any other beliefs. It is what we are taught in schools, in our homes, and in our churches. The idea of sin has been ingrained in our minds, hearts, and on our bodies, that we have a hard time shaking it from our consciousness. And because we do have a difficult time shaking it from our beliefs, it is a belief that is the underlying cause of all our struggles, in every aspect of our experience, work, relationships, marriage, how we treat eachother, how we interpret others' and our world, and we will keep this Karmic Wheel going until we decide we want to change.
Can a Fat Girl Be Beautiful?
A "Fat" Girl CAN BE beautiful when we decide that fat isn't wrong, ugly, or something bad. It simply is. A "Fat" Girl CAN BE beautiful when we stop putting such a value on physical beauty(which is temporary) and start focusing on deeper beauty that can't always be seen, by sight. The questions we are to ask ourselves are, if we are over the recomended weight, for our height and age... WHY? And is it working for me? If it isn't working for me, I must take the steps towards change at every level. Change won't work if we are just dieting, excersizing, and going to meetings. And we must have a healthy attitude in what we are doing, committment, and dedication. And we must be aware that any kind of change does not come automatically, everything takes time. We live in a society where if imediate results are not seen, we quit. We do this through constant reaffirming what we want to manifest. Notice I didn't say create, because we are ALREADY "created" beautiful, though if we don't !
believe it, it doesn't manifest. So believe in yourself, seek reinforcements through outside sources like books, positive music, and authors you love, and also reinforce yourself innwardly through meditation, prayer, and knowing you are a Shining Light of God. In God's world, even a Fat Girl is beautiful. If you can't see it, just look through God's eyes. She's never wrong.
