NEITH No. 1 GODDESS OF
THE MOTHER GODDESS GNOSTIC SOCIETY

Why the Goddess Neith?
Neith was the patron of war, impartiality, and the funeral bier and mummification
wrappings.  Neith was seen as a woman who carried weapons of war, which were usually
the bow and arrow.
Neith was also a Goddess of the domestic arts and weaving.
During Old Kingdom times Neith was a deity of war and would be invoked by soldiers for
the protection of their weapons.  These weapons were generally consecrated to the
Goddess Neith.
During the New Kingdom though Neith was more closely associated with the Funerary rites,
as mummy wrappings were called “Gifts of Neith”.
At times Neith was considered the Creator Goddess who gave birth to the Universe even
though she had no consort, she is one of only a few Goddesses who was to be given this
ability.
This is why we chose her as the No. 1 Goddess as she had a dual nature of Mother
Goddess and Protector of the Dead.
There is an inscription at her temple in Egypt, which states “I am all that has been, that is,
and that will be”. (I do believe that this inscription really adds to the point of  Neith being
the Creator Goddess).
She can sometimes be seen in Egyptian art wearing the crown of the North on her head, a
sceptre in one hand and the ankh in her other hand.  (The Ankh is an Egyptian Symbol
which signifies LIFE).  This also  suggests more to the Creator Goddess Theory.
