Today hundreds of thousands of nuns or Jain Harika devotees will attend the Head Annointing Ceremony at the Statue of Gomateshwara. Gomateshwara was a Jain Saint. The statue is about 1,800 years old and resides to the west of Bangalore . It is around 60ft tall.

The ceremony is held once every 12 years and dates back to around 981. During the ceremony milk, honey and clarified butter will be poured from the head.
