Summer Solstice Ritual 2004
Being so busy with the mundane things in my life, I haven't quite
mastered celebrating the Summer Solstice with the workings of a
circle. I didn't let that stop me. I went to my favorite sacred spot which
is on a huge rock that extends into a running pond with a huge oak
tree that towers over it.
Over to my right side was a family of geese. Each year there is one
lovely couple that raises new young ones every year. This year they
had three fine young ones. At the dam, there were couple of ducks.
They are all accustomed to my presence.
As I gazed upon the pond, the mundane world seemed to vanished. I
felt like I had slipped into another world filled with abundance, peace
and beauty. I imagined this experience as a glimpse of
heaven...........heaven right on earth. My heart was filled with joy and I
lifted my ocarina out of my purse and played songs of joy from my
heart to the divine. I was accompanied by a choir of all the animals
around me, birds, frogs and insects. The fish were jumping in front of
me. I felt so in touch with the universal energies. For a brief moment,
my fears were set aside. I began to think anything was possible.
Later, I took a book out that I had brought with me to guide me to
perform a circle for this special occasion. I didn't do a formal circle
since I didn't feel comfortable due to passing traffic. My sacred spot
is also on private club property. I became a member just to have the
privilege on being on the grounds. Members of the club are very
uncomfortable around me. I think to the point where they may even
cause me harm. So very discreetly I said:
I celebrate the noon of the summer with mystic rites
O great Goddess and God,
all nature vibrates with your energies
and the Earth is bathed with warmth and life.
Now is the time for purification,
Oh fiery Sun,
burn away the unuseful,
the hurtful,
the bane,
in your Omnipotent power.
Purify me!
I picked up a little stone and tried to vision all my negativity going into
the stone and said:
I banish you by the powers of the Goddess and God,
I banish you by the powers of the Sun, Moon and Stars!
I banish you by the powers of Earth, Air, Earth and Water!
Then I tossed the stone into the water. Later, I gave thanks. The
words I used were creatively written by Scott Cunningham, from
"Wicca A Guide For The Solitary Practitioner.
Once again, I played a few tunes on my ocarina out of gratitude and
then left.
The next day I went by my sacred spot and decided to stop in for a
moment of meditation. I saw something on the rock. At first, I thought
it was one of them brown bug balls that perhaps had fallen from the
tree. As I got closer to it I could hardly believe my eyes. It was an egg.
Instinctively, I knew it was a gift that had been left behind for me. I
was in absolute awe, by the egg and it's symbolism. I had my camera
with me and took a photo. I didn't quite know what to do with it, so I
left it behind, knowing full well that nature would know what to do
with it.
